Dear all,

Following your discussion, I want to leave here in organized writing the most recent updates:

A.      Grade distribution – your proposal, which I found very reasonable (especially given the high level of your presentations), is approved. The new weight for the grades, also included in the updated syllabus (in Moodle) is now:

    1. Final Exam: 40% (instead of 50%)
    2. Final Research Proposal Draft: 15% (instead of 10%)
    3. First Draft of the Research Proposal: 10% (no change)
    4. Review of one draft: 10% (No change)
    5. Presentation: 25% (instead of 20%)

B.      For the make-up class – your proposal is also approved, and the administration has confirmed the availability of rooms (see figure at the end of the message):

    1. Tuesday from 9.30-12.30: This would be the regularly scheduled make-up class, and then the class we had to reschedule right after
    2. Cancel Wednesday from 11-12.30 and move to Thursday.
    3. Thursday from 9.30-12.30: This would be the original class (from 9.30-11) plus the class from Wednesday after.

C.     Review of one draft. Sorry you have not received this yet; Jorge has just confirmed that he is sending them soon. Let’s set the deadline for Friday 9th EOD (23:59).

D.     Exam:

a.       You can now see in Moodle a first version of the list of papers that you will have printed for you during the exam (only for the first half of the course). We can discuss it in class – I’ll update it to a similar final version before the exam.

b.       You can now see in Moodle examples of previous exams, including this year’s exams for the MIDPP, which I prepared myself – so might provide a better guide-. Two of them include guidelines for grading, which I hope help you!

E.       I have uploaded the most recent slides and corresponding papers to Moodle.

I’m glad to see there was a unanimous approval of the next steps. I hope this agreed plan results in good learning outcomes!

Thanks and best regards,

Brais

p.s. thanks to all of you for the discussion and to Tobias for the coordination!
