    Learning Outcomes

"Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardour and attended to with diligence." Abigail Adams

Every meaningful decision of a firm has financial implications. In this course you will learn to understand the key financing decisions of a firm, in particular, the investment, financing and payout decisions. And assess the impact of each decision on the value for all investors and other stakeholders.

    General Skills:

    • Support management decisions with financial analysis
    • Relate the financing decision with the value of a project/company
    • Relate payout decision with value of the company

      Assessment

The assessment in this course will have 5 components:
      • Summative quizzes - 10%
      • Participation in Forum - [0%, 5%]
      • Short case studies - [25%, 30%]
      • Midterm exam - [10%, 20%]
      • Final exam - [40%, 50%]
The final grade will be computed the following way:

      10% Quiz + 10% Midterm + 10% max{Midterm, Exam} + 40% Exam + 25% Case studies + 5% max{Participation, Case studies}

NOTE: You are required to do the final exam. But there is no minimum grade required in the Final Exam to pass the course.

Here are the additional details on some of the components:
      Summative quizzes:

Participation in Forum for Doubts and/or news discussions:
There are typically many questions posted in the forum for doubts that the graders and I will answer. However, if you know the answer to some questions and can explain them clearly, you will be rewarded with a participation grade.

You can also choose to participate in the news discussion. A good participation can also be rewarded.
This can be 0% or 5% of your final grade depending on whether it improves upon your Case Studies grade.

      Short case studies:

Since the grade of the case studies is the best of the two, you are not required to do all two case studies.

Finally, you can check all the key dates in the course calendar.
